Maritime Cargo Operations and Safety Procedures: Marine Chemistry, MARPOL, and Tank Cleaning Practice Test

The International Oil Pollution Prevention certificate is valid for five years. This five-year period aligns with the renewal survey cycle required by MARPOL Annex I to verify that the ship’s oil pollution prevention equipment, arrangements, and procedures remain in good order. Before the certificate expires, a renewal survey must be completed and a new certificate issued. In some cases, a short extension (up to five months) may be allowed to finish the renewal, but the overall validity cannot extend beyond five years.
